Symptoms

Warning in backup job:

PRODUCT_WARN: Node '{filename}' collision at position x

Cause

Comet found multiple files with the exact same name in the same folder during the backup.

Resolution

• File and Folder backup:

  This error shouldn't happen on standard file systems. Comet backs up the first returned file, and ignores subsequent collisions, assuming it to be the same file. Investigate the endpoint's mount points for network mounts like FUSE, and for errors in the system logs. Ensure the endpoint's file system is working correctly and there are no recursive mount points.

• Microsoft 365 backup:

  The warning is safe to ignore. Microsoft's Graph API sometimes returns duplicate files. Comet has already backed up the file, and ignores the duplicate.
