How to split a shared Storage Vault into separate Storage Vaults per device in Comet Backup

Question

Multiple devices are backing up to the same Storage Vault, and jobs are failing with lock or job conflict errors because the devices are competing for access to that Vault. How do I split these devices into their own separate Storage Vaults?

Answer

1. Create a new Storage Vault for each device that currently shares a Vault with other devices.
2. Open the Protected Item for each device that needs to move to its own Storage Vault.

3. On the Protected Item's Schedule, change the destination Storage Vault to the new Storage Vault created for that device, then save the Protected Item.

   Note: Each Protected Item has its own Schedule, and each Schedule has a Storage Vault configured as its destination. Running a backup manually to a new Storage Vault does not update this Schedule — the next scheduled backup will keep running against the original shared Storage Vault until the Schedule's destination is changed.

4. Repeat steps 1–3 for every device that needs to move off the shared Storage Vault.
5. After the next scheduled backup runs, check the job log for each Protected Item to confirm it ran against the new Storage Vault.
