Question
Is it possible to enable Object Lock on existing buckets in the bucket config if they were created without it?
Answer
No. Object Lock cannot be enabled on a bucket after it has been created. This applies to AWS S3 and similar object storage providers. Object Lock must be enabled at bucket creation time, since it also requires versioning to be enabled and locked in from the start; AWS does not allow enabling it retroactively on an existing bucket. Existing Storage Vaults cannot be converted into Storage Vaults with Object Lock.
To use Object Lock, create new storage buckets with Object Lock enabled at creation, then migrate to them. Existing buckets cannot be modified to add this capability.
