Question
How do I switch my Comet Backup plan?
Answer
Note: On the Starter plan, the license fees for backup types are higher than on other plans. See pricing page for details: https://www.cometbackup.com/pricing/.
- With the Starter plan, you are only allowed to use one Self-Hosted Management Console. You can check that you only have one Self-Hosted Management Console in Comet Account Portal > My Services tab.
-
If you also have a secondary Self-Hosted Console, you have to delete it. Click on Actions > Delete as shown on the screenshot below. This will archive the Self-Hosted license. Archived licenses are disabled and cannot be reused.
- After confirming that you only have one Comet-Hosted Management Console, raise a ticket or email hello@cometbackup.com so Comet Customer Success can change the account plan.

The Professional plan only allows one Comet-Hosted Management Console, while the Starter plan only allows one Self-Hosted Console, so this means that you will be switching from a Comet-Hosted to a Self-Hosted Management Console.
To switch to the Starter plan, the following have to be done:
- Raise a ticket with Comet Customer Success or email hello@cometbackup.com to request the plan change.
-

Once on the Advanced plan, add a Self-Hosted Console from Comet account > My Services. Click on '+ Add Service', as shown in the screenshot below.
-
Download the Self-Hosted Management Console, and install it following this guide on the system requirements and installation steps.
-
After the Self-Hosted Console is downloaded and successfully installed, transfer your backup settings manually from your Comet-Hosted Management Console.
Note: There is no process to migrate from Comet-Hosted to Self-Hosted. Essentially, the customer will be starting from scratch.
-
Once the backup settings are transferred, delete your Comet-Hosted Management Console in Comet account > My Services. Click on Actions > Delete beside the Comet-Hosted Console, as shown in the screenshot below.
- After deleting the Comet-Hosted Management Console, update the ticket to let Comet Customer Success know that they can now change the plan from Advanced to Starter. Comet Customer Success will credit your account for the difference between the Advanced and Starter plan fees during the switch.
